“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.” That lyric — that notion of “staying full of wonder” is the inspiration behind the StayWonderfull blog. As an old soul, I’ve lived my life being dazzled by the wonders that surround us. Being captivated by the brilliance of the moon on a clear winter’s night. Or the promise of spring that blows in the breeze when the sweet scent of lilacs tickle the nose. The relief that comes from an evening thunderstorm as raindrops chill the skin after a sweltering day.
Nature is a great place to pull awe from. It’s where I’ve found most of my creative inspiration and where I’ve always felt most grounded. Nature isn’t the only place that wonder can be spotted though. It surrounds us even when we least expect it. That swell of joy that fills your heart when you laugh so hard that you can’t catch your breath. The feeling of nostalgia that brings a tear to your eye when you hear a certain song from your playlist. The synchronicity of thinking of someone you haven’t heard from in a long while, only to have them reach out to you later that day.
Perhaps you have experienced some of these moments. If not I know you have some of your own, but regardless: these moments are all gifts. The more these gifts are treasured and appreciated, the more they appear in our life because the more aware of them we become. It’s a wonderful circle that can bring so much peace, love and happiness to those who welcome it.
That awareness also plays a major role in being able to find wonder during moments of disappointment, discouragement, doubt and despair. Our ability to rebound during difficult times is an achievement. That ebb and flow of change and impermanence is something that we should all be aware of, and use, to help push us through future struggles.
Another wonder that comes from struggle is the potential knowledge we gain. Being aware of emotions during difficult times and choosing to not let them control us is an accomplishment. Being able to take that to the next level and pull a lesson from it is a whole other level of wonderfull. After all, our greatest lessons usually come from our most difficult times.
The key to happiness is perspective. It’s all about making a choice to find the good, the inspiring, the beauty, and the wonderment in life. These are the things that I want to bring to you. My hope is that by sharing this blog with you, you are inspired to search out the magic in your own life.
