Winter Solstice
The trees have put on their final show,
With leaves dressed up in autumn’s glow.
Children filled the urban streets,
Playing parts for stranger’s sweets.
The holidays are very near,
Children wait for Saint Nick to appear.
Adults are dashing to and fro,
With pressure to create a magic show.
With all the buzz, we hardly leave,
Time for ourselves; a chance to breathe.
But that’s what the Winter Solstice is for,
A chance to reflect, renew and restore.
The trees have released what they no longer need.
Flowers have dropped next year’s seed.
Nature goes into a peaceful retreat,
As their annual cycles are now complete.
In the stillness, they have time to rest,
And store energy up for next year’s best.
We should take some time to follow their lead.
And reflect on our hopes, our dreams and our needs.
Let go of what hurts us, what leads us astray,
The things that do nothing, but get in our way.
Instead put that energy into good intent,
Focus it and watch your life reinvent.
So welcome this solstice with an open heart.
Let the shortest day, be a brand-new start.
May the year ahead bloom with magic and more,
And may you shine brighter than ever before.
